FIM E-Xplorer World Cup hits the heights in Switzerland with Round Two

- Crans Montana hosts E-Xplorer Round Two on June 24, 2023, in stunning alpine location.

- Swiss ‘Wild Card’ Entry to boost the field with a ninth team

The FIM E-Xplorer World Cup moves from an exciting first round in Barcelona six weeks ago (13 May 2023) to scale the Swiss Alps for round two in the stunning location of Cry d’Er Crans Montana, 2200 meters up in the Valais region of Western Switzerland.

Located 2200 meters up in the Valais region of Western Switzerland, Round Two of the FIM E-Explorer World Cup takes place this Saturday – 24th June – and promises to be a truly epic spectacle; staged in this Alpine region and accessed only by an alpine gondola, in what will be a unique event for two-wheel electric motorsport.

The Crans Montana event will boast nine teams and 18 riders this time – one more than Catalunya – with a male and female in each team, promoting the fact that women can compete with men on this level playing field. Sandra Gómez and Jorge Zaragoza, who took victory with the Midori Moriwaki team in Catalunya, storm into the event at the head of the championship table and will be approaching the Crans Montana challenge with extreme confidence following a perfect result in Barcelona.

With a truly international field populated by riders from nine different countries and three continents, the home country will be well represented this Saturday with a ‘wild card’ Swiss team taking part with Swiss national, Michelle Zünd taking her place as the female rider in the Backyard Racing Lizcart factory team. Her teammate for the weekend in the ‘one off’ appearance will be Italian rider Alex Andreis.

There will be two other Swiss women riding on Saturday, with Sandra Keller in the MaddWill Powered by EBMX and Loane Sudan in Fanatics team both of whom competed in the first round in Catalunya.

“I am so excited to be riding in my home country,” said Sandra Keller, who is currently sixth in the standings with her team Maddwill Powered by EBMX. “The race location looks incredible, and I am hoping the local crowd will be on my side and giving me some home advantage. I can’t wait.”

There are more associations with Switzerland as the company behind E-Xplorer is based in the country and its CEO, Valentin Guyonnet is a Swiss national. It is the ‘home’ event for this young series.

“This is going to be a great weekend,” said Valentin. “I am delighted to be able to run an event in my home country. It promises to be a truly fantastic experience. The location is stunning, and I can guarantee the track has been designed for fast and close racing. We are introducing more fan experiences with an electric mobility village for our spectators, and I feel there will be a real festival atmosphere thanks to the promotion in the region from our partners in Crans Montana – I Ride Green. It will be a real celebration of sport, nature and electrification.”

As well as the addition of the ‘wild card’ team of Backyard Racing Lizcat Factory Team, there will also be another change to the starting line up with the absence of superstar rider, Robbie Maddison. An unexpected personal situation has occurred, and Robbie has reluctantly had to step down for this one weekend and has leant his Sur Ron to Dylan Woodcock for this one event. It will be a one race deal for Woodcock but an opportunity the British rider will certainly relish.

The scene is set for a truly epic and action-packed festival of two-wheel electric sport in the most dramatic backdrop. Round Two is ready to go live.
